Cabrinha Crossbow 13m - Great Light Wind Kite
I have had the opportunity to test the Cabrinha Crossbow now in multiple environments. Overall, I have found the kite to be very versatile. It is a very well constructed kite and performs well in a wide range of conditions. It is now one of my "go to" low wind kites. I have noted the following characteristics about this kite:
Performance - Once again a great light wind kite. I recently did a downwinder with a friend in Hatteras. The wind was light and a little flucky. The wind was 13-15 knots, with more significant lulls. I was flying the 13m Crossbow and buddy was flying a new 14m kite. The 13 managed to hang in the air better during the lulls. At one point, it did fall out of the sky and it took some time to get back in the air, but still managed to get me home. I have flown the kite on more steady days and have been really impressed. This kite will launch you for some BIG AIR and you feel like you are sitting up there forever. Because of the size and build it is not as responsive as some other kites, but overall nice feel. One other thing that I have noted about the kite is that it will head upwind very well. In the right steady wind conditions, I have done "upwinders" with this kite and traveled to secluded spots.
Build Quality - No complaints here. This is a sturdy well-built kite. It holds up extremely well. I have put it through some tough conditions and dropped it in a few places it should not be dropped (marshes, etc.) I have never damaged the kite. The kite is easy to pump up using Sprint inflation and single valve. I have tomahawked it hard many times and never had a problem.
Control Bar - I have read many reviews about the control bar and how light the pressure is. I generally agree; however, I have had this kite out in big winds (when winds have come up) and have found the bar pressure to be pretty hard - even when kite is de-powered. Other than this, I like the bar and safety features.
Relauch - Generally easy relaunch even in light winds. Once again, I have had it in heavy winds as well and it can take a good amount of bar pressure to get the kite up on the edge - really this is just an issue when over-powered.
Overall, I would recommend this kite to someone looking for a good low wind kite that handles well in a wide range of conditions. Cahbrinha is an industry leader for a reason. The continue to make top of the line products that perform well.
