Epic kiteboard bar review
We bought the 9m to test for our school. The owner pushed us to buy the bar, eventhough we saw from the pictures that it was poorly designed. We decided to test it. After having issues with the kite being poorly packed, quality issues with the bladder, and the bar being completely made of poor quality we decide not to proceed with investing in Epic kites.
Kite performs well.
The bar on the other hand is a disgrace. It's poorly designed, really cheap materials, and not surprisingly broke after four times use. Yes, 4th time use the bar end piece broke off. Poorly molded two pc. system, using the cheapest plastic available. It was held on by one screw, and the pressure point is where the seam of the molding is. If you pick up the bar, already you can spot tons of marks to a poorly constructed system. For example the eyelit where the center depower line travels through has no figure eight in it, so at an angle when riding it is creating unnecessary friction and is really crowded...will end up in center line change in no time. The rubber is poor quality and roughly applied, therefore chaffing your hands as you ride.
The owner refused to take the bar back, or offer a refund. A repair piece was offered, but was never sent..instead he was more occupied with email arguements over the topic, and hiding behind his 90day warranty.
Buyer beware, low quality with no support from a no reputable producer of kites.
This kite Screams
I have flown the Epic Renegade 9m, 11m and the screamer 10M LE. Its a hansome kite. Nice strong boxy shape in black with the gold Epic logo that glints in the sunlight.
Dimitri, the man behind Epic claims that this kite is as powerful as a 12m. Everyone who tries this kite is amazed that it is so powerful. But I am sure that many of those who tried it have not felt how powerful it really is. Let me explain. When the wind is strong, everyone can tell it is powerful, but when the wind is just moderately strong, and you know how to work this kite, then you will know it can generate incredible power. This power is not there all the time, you must work it. You dive it hard, edge hard and yank it backwards. You will be able to throw every trick in the book. And when you dive it hard, you will know why the name Screamer is so apt for this kite. Wake style, free style, old school in moderate winds where a 12m can jump just a little, this kite will launch you easily.
The bar pressure is heavy (as compared to SLE standards. not c kites) and you will grow some muscles. The depower is good and it better be because flying it on gusty days, its really gonna pull hard. That's another point about this kite. It's small yet powerful, it's not magic, there are downsides to this. Power up too much, you can feel the stall. Note I said feel. The kite doesn't drop out of the sky but you can feel alot of power, then little as you pull the bar in. And as I said, be alert for gusts, this kite pulls hard.
Relaunch is okay, absolutely no problems. Not super easy, but no problems. Construction is good and you can tell they put attention to small details.
While even beginners can use this kite, it will 'suprise them' if they dive it too hard. This kite is best used by kiters who understand how kites work and fly. This kite feels like its performance has been tuned to the limit. Learn how to access this performance and you will be rewarded with a really stoking session. Don't know how to fly it? well you will just feel you have a really powerhouse of a kite. Then the Renegade is for you.
I like this kite very much. But i will still reach for the Renegade, because the performance is so much more accessible. But that is another review.
Lastly after having flown both the Renegade and Screamer, I must add that both kites are different but at the same time possess one really good thing. They are both extremely well balanced in all aspects of performance except that they are for two different type of riders.
